Sometimes guttering and boiler problems are interconnected:

means, all these years later, in 2023, that’s sixty(!) you get the leaves (and how!).
You don’t realise how easily they might block the guttering, nor do you realise that when you have a problem with your boiler that because the waste pipe from the boiler wasn’t able to properly drain into the waste pipe at the back of the house and that the waste pipe wasn’t draining because it was blocked with leaves well, do you?
Well, you just learn from experience. Below you can see the pipe coming out of the boiler, what you can’t see is the run off pipe which goes around the corner, it drains the water from the boiler but because the guttering was full of leaves the gutter itself was blocked.

MTVH use their own contractors, Metworks, for building maintenance and Aaron Services (now part of Sureserve) to maintain and repair our boilers. One of the neighbours called round to say did you know that water’s pouring down your wall?
No! I called Aaron services and their engineer, Ash, explained that the pressure relief valve had failed. It’s a fail safe so that air going into the pipe will drain: the rubber seal had perished.

However, the problem wasn’t solved: the water continued to run. I called Aaron Services: Ben explained that Ash wouldn’t have realised that a plate from the heat exchanger needed to be replaced as it had cracked.

Then Shaun and Kevin from Metworks cleared the leaves from the gutter (Shaun kindly cleaning the back and front windows afterwards)

kindly explained that the boiler wastepipe wasn’t running into the gutter downpipe properly so it leaks. Another job to do: but I think I’ve learnt a lot about things I knew little about and I really appreciate the clean, kind, efficient way the jobs were done.
